1. Benefits of COOLBACK®
COOLBACK
In addition to cooling, COOLBACK also gives a added strength to a module, as well as extending a modules lifespan.
COOLBACK’s frameless structure gives added strength to the back surface of a solar module. It offers more support than conventional frames, which only provide support to the rim of the glass.
COOLBACK also prolongs the lifespan of solar units by combatting degradation, caused by high temperatures and bending.
A module’s lifespan is estimated to be prolonged by 20-30%, based on ongoing scientific and test data.
Yes. COOLBACK® is made from premium aluminum and can be recycled in various aluminum recycling processes.
Yes. In principle, COOLBACK® fits all kinds of solar modules.
Solar modules with 60 cells, 72 cells, mono crystalline and poly crystalline can all be equipped with COOLBACK.
The COOLBACK® System’s intelligent design allows for stacking to drastically reduce shipping volume. The height of COOLBACK® measures 40mm, which is similar to standard frames that measure 30 mm to 40 mm in height. The trick to reducing volume is in the nesting. COOLBACK® units can be stacked back-to-back, reducing transport volume by 50%.
COOLBACK® is integrated during the framing phase of production using standard methods. Instead of installing the frame during this phase, the COOLBACK® System is attached to the back side of a module.
This process is fully automated and done at high speed using the COOLBACK® Assembly Station, available for seamless integration into every manufacturer’s process.
If you are interested in receiving more detailed information about the COOLBACK® Assembly Station, please send an email to COOLBACK Company B.V. with your contact details.
Modules fitted with COOLBACK® are mounted using the COOLBACK® Mounting System. The system is specifically developed to allow for quick installation of COOLBACK® modules while enhancing module lifetime.
The COOLBACK® Mounting System has been fully tested in accordance with IEC 61215 and IEC 61730 standards. In mechanical load tests, the System successfully performs on loads of 5.400 Pa push and -2.400 Pa pull.
Outperforming conventional methods, the System uses proprietary COOLBACK® Clamps for mounting COOLBACK® modules simply and securely. Because the Clamps are placed at the most ideal positions, the (wind) load is optimally distributed over the entire surface area of a module. This contrasts with framed modules, which are only supported at the module’s rim.
In combination with the rigid structure of a COOLBACK®-equipped solar module, the optimal support provided by the COOLBACK® Clamps give solar cells unprecedented protection by substantially reducing microcracks. The expected lifetime of a COOLBACK®-equipped solar module is therefore significantly higher than rim-mounted, conventionally
framed solar modules.
The weight of the COOBACK® System is comparable to that of a conventional frame & backsheet unit.
The COOLBACK® System replaces the frame & backsheet of solar modules during the assembly processes.
2. How does COOLBACK® work?

Solar modules with 60 cells, 72 cells, mono crystalline and poly crystalline can all be equipped with COOLBACK.
As a frameless structure which is mounted to the back of a solar panel, COOLBACK works by dissipating the heat of a solar module through natural convection and radiation.
This effect is magnified by COOLBACK’s larger surface area (5x larger), allowing heat to dissipate at more easily.
Heat losses in solar modules account for more than a 10% decline in the energy generated by a solar module. COOLBACK plays a big role in preventing these losses.
Although COOLBACK works in all climates, it’s most effective in high irradiation areas where the sun’s intensity causes normally high module temperatures.
COOLBACK provides extra cooling when operating temperatures exceed 40°C. In more moderate temperatures, COOLBACK has no extra cooling effect but does offer added structural strength at lower shipping volumes than a conventional frame-equipped module.
Yes. COOLBACK is fully IEC certified, including certification for standards concerning isolation, strength and safety. COOLBACK’s backsheet replacement change has also been tested and approved by the institute.
The extra output generated by COOLBACK® can vary between 1-7% depending on the temperature of the standard module and the location of utilization.
By measuring the temperature of a standard module with frame, we get a good indication what the output would be using COOLBACK®.
The effects of COOLBACK become very apparent at operational temperatures above 40°C (104°F). For every 10°C above 40°C, an additional 1.4% output can be expected. This really adds up in warmer climates.
For example:
If the operational temperature of a standard module is 80°C, COOLBACK would generate an additional 5.6% in output.

Imagine if all solar modules in existence were able to produce more output and have a longer, more productive lifespan?
We would have more sustainable energy, consume fewer materials for production, and reduce the waste and pollution related to manufacturing.
This is what COOLBACK® stands for.
But that’s not all. COOLBACK Company makes every effort to operate and produce in the most environmentally-friendly manner possible. This starts with sourcing raw materials from carefully selected suppliers. Our production and logistics methods are aimed at reducing waste. And we produce part of our own energy. We practice an environmentally-friendly philosophy throughout the entire supply chain.
